Hi! I'm Jonathan (he/him)
and wow do I ever want to be your next vc analyst!
TL;DR: I believe that my experiences, skills and interests mean I’d be a good fit as the next member of your team, and the idea that I could have a part in making the world a better place with the extraordinary work you do and facilitate would be a dream come true!
In undergrad I studied art (I like to think of it as a degree in creative problem solving), but I was also the only art major taking financial accounting classes as electives.
I’ve long been proud of the fact that the law school I attended is one that teaches plain English legal writing - emphasizing the value of making complex issues approachable. Shortly after school I moved to Nashville to “see about a girl” (to quote Goodwill Hunting), and started my career in finance/fintech.
Since moving to “Music City” I’ve been honing the skills that should help me help The RD Fund - I was an implementation analyst and regulatory valuation software product owner at a small hometown SaaS company that quickly got acquired by IPREO (Now IHS Markit). There I spent all day in the deep end with financial statements, cap tables, waterfall analyses and regulatory valuations of portfolio companies of all of the household-name-Venture Capital firms.
Then I was a marketing and community manager for a niche boutique marketing agency, where I honed my troubleshooting and de-escalation skills while interacting regularly with executives and end-users in bleeding-edge financial tech (Crypto/blockchain) where regulations were new and always needed to be researched and updated internally.
And now I’m an analyst managing clients’ equity plans at JP Morgan. I speak regularly with executives of public companies (and some very large private companies), planning and executing restricted stock releases, option exercises, stock issuances, etc. I coordinate with trading, settlement and payment teams with an eye on tight regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements.
(I also proudly did a stint as a stay-at-home dad, which taught me patience, focus, compassion, listening and clear communication skills in a way few other experiences can)
All that to say: I’m a creative and deeply analytical finance nerd with experiences that directly apply to the tasks your VC team tackles daily.
I come alive when I get to learn new things, solve meaningful puzzles, and make sure that clients and end-users feel like royalty. In the middle of a three-circle Venn diagram connecting objective analysis, kind & effective communication, and creative problem solving, we find my professional happy place. Add in the chance for my work to actually have a meaningful positive impact in the world and it truly becomes a dream come true.
In short, I would love the chance to build a career helping The Foundation Fighting Blindness build a better future.
